How to clean a mower carburetor? ›

Disconnect or remove the spark plug. Remove the outer casing and open the air filter to expose the carburetor. Use an air compressor, brush (or combination of the two) to remove clippings, dirt and gunk from the outside of the carburetor and linkage. Take special care to avoid any debris getting into it.

On a riding mower, the carburetor is generally found on the side or top of the engine. Like on a push mower, it will typically be behind the air filter, so you'll have to remove the air filter and filter housing to access the carburetor, which is connected by a fuel line to the gas tank.
